Correspondence Regarding the Nuffield New Guinea Project 1953-1954

Includes funding request to the Nuffield Foundation for the expedition. It seems that the initial request for support was denied as there is an undated letter from Profesor Harold Dew (Professor of Surgery at the University of Sydney and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, 1936-1938, 1940-1952) to the committee of the Nuffield Foundation requesting they reconsider the application.
A letter dated 31 March 1955, to Dr WE Smythe of the Department of Health in Rabaul, that the plan is to begin work in the Wabag area, some distance from west of Wabag.
Letter from the BBC to Elkin, 22 April 1955 that a Mr Farwell would accompany the expedition and report and broadcast for the BBC and the ABC on the expedition.
Includes original research project outline: 'Anthropology and some aspects of medical science. The University of Sydney and the Red Cross Transfusion Service on a Grant from the Nuffield Foundation.'
