The Cumberland College Foundation was a non-profit company limited by guarantee. In response to restrictions on educational budgeting it was established by the Council of Cumberland College to link scientific and educational projects and research in the health sciences with practical community needs.
Scientific projects the Foundation was going to foster included development of the NSW Sports Sciences and Research Centre programs, the establishment of a teaching polyclinic and hydrotherapy pool, seminar and lecture programs in response to community interests, establishment of fellowships and scholarships, contracts for special research, the funding of study tours, and the provision of manpower and facilities for community access to health and sports related services.
The control and management of the Foundation was vested in a Board of Trustees which could comprise fifteen trustees including those nominated by the Council od Cumberland College.
