The item is a fawn covered notebook, approx. 100 pages, containing handwritten entries written in lead pencil. The notebook is not paginated. [N.B. at the start of the book Radcliffe Brown was at Nambucca Heads on 26 January 1929.] Inside the front cover it states: A Short History of the Downs Blacks known as "The Blucher Tribe By Thomas Hall. Warwick... Followed by Nyurnga near Nambucca, 15 or 18 miles this side.
 
The front of the notebook contains information on Kinship, Totems and language which relate to the following language groups: Yugambal - Minjungbal, Yagara, Githabul, Gumbaynggir, Yaygir, Dhanggatti, and Ngambaa. [Radcliffe Brown references RH Mathews regarding the first mention of Githabul and Yugambal].

The last few pages of the notebook contain the following:
