Records [Cecil Julian Manning Walters] (Series 1501)

This series includes:

- a notebook with recipes for the treatment of animals; two loose sheets with recipes - one of these is ripped and very fragile.

- authorisation of inspector certificates issued to Dr Walters for the following: 1. Veterinary assistant, Meat Branch, Department of Public Health Export, 24 March 1914; 2. Assistant veterinary inspector, Department of Public Health, 24 March 1914.

- letters of recommendation for Dr Walters by Professor JD Stewart, Professor of Veterinary Science, 16 December 1913 and 04 May 1933.

- a signed menu for the first annual dinner of the Sydney University Veterinary Society, 12 December 1913.

- a 1920 Department of Veterinary Science handbook, with advertisements for Veterinary equipment inserted by Dr Walters.

Dr Cecil Julian Manning Walters, CBE., BVSc., (1913) MBChM (1923).

Dr Walters was born in Taree 6 January 1895. He was one of the first students to study Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney in 1910, graduating in 1913. He served in WWI as a Vet, first in Egypt and then in France - see the Beyond 1914 website for his entry. He was mentioned in a despatch by Sir Douglas Haig, 9 April 1917. The photographs in this series were taken during his time in Egypt.

He graduated MBChM in 1923. He was awarded CBE in 1954 for outstanding services to medicine, hospital administration and the community.  He died on 19 July 1967.

These items were part of the accession from the School of Veterinary Science. They had been deposited with the Honorary Archivist by Dr Walters' son. As these were not records of the School of Veterinary Science per se, the records were originally moved to the Miscellaneous Series (Series 1117).
