Executive Summary of the Review of the Administration of the University by Boston Consulting Group

A memorandum by Vice-Chancellor D McNicol to members of staff of the University circulating the Executive Summary of the Review of the Administration of the University, and, the responses of the review team to the Boston Consulting Group's recommendations regarding changes to the administration of the University. 

The Review of Administration commissioned by the Vice-Chancellor was undertaken by the Boston Consulting Group in 1992 and had a number of organisation consequences for the University. The two original administrative divisions managed by the Registrar and the Bursar were restructured into four Divisions (Administrative Policy and Strategic Planning; Administrative Support Services; Financial Services; and External Relations); and four Academic Groups (Group A (the Sciences Group), B (the Professional Faculties), C (The Health Sciences), and D (Arts, Education, the Sydney College of the Arts, and the Conservatorium). The principal rationale for this restructuring was a widely recognised need to provide academic units with an administrative support structure which was focused more closely on the University's strategic priorities, separation of policy considerations from service delivery, in-house user requirements and the relations of the University with its external constituents.
