This series contains general subject files raised and retained by the Vice-Chancellor of the day, in response to a perceived need at the time, and as a result of a given matter being raised by a senior staff member, usually a member of the academic staff. There are many folders on matters concerning both the Federal and State Governments of the day, to matters affecting the governance of the University of Sydney, and to planning for the future of the University. The amalgamations of 1989-1990 are well covered, as are such matters as Faculty reconstruction, the Quinquennial Plan (first strategic plan), the Political Economy issue, and Westmead Hospital. There are files on individual Departments, and on many Faculties, although there is by no means a complete coverage. The series covers mainly the period of the Vice-Chancellorship of Sir Bruce Williams and Professor John Ward, although some files predate their period.
