Federal Capital Site Royal Commission Documents [Alexander Oliver] (Series 1402)

In 1899 the NSW Government set up a Royal Commission to investigate a site for a Federal Capital. Alexander Oliver was appointed Commissioner. In his report Alexander recommended Bombala-Eden for the Federal Capital, however, the NSW Government had no powers of decision in the matter and the new Commonwealth Government held its own Commissions of Enquiry which eventually decided on the present Yass-Queanbeyan site. This series of one folder and 2 volumes contains press cuttings, correspondence, notes, an itinerary for one of Alexander's trips, and a copy of the report, complete with the volume of appendices.
