Papers Relating to Legal Case Between Alexander Oliver and TW Smart [Alexander Oliver] (Series 1395)

After Alexander Oliver's father died, his mother remarried TW Smart, a prominent businessman and subsequently, Colonial Treasurer, Member of the NSW Parliament and Minister for Public Works under Sir Charles Cowper. When his father died, Alexander became a trustee of the estate along with Smart's children by a previous marriage. The legal case with which the documents in this series are concerned seems to have been between Alexander and his family and the Smart children, and appears to have concerned a misapplication of funds by one of the trustees. The case might have started after Alexander's death and continued until the 1920s or 1930s. The series includes a large number of earlier documents relating to Smart, and his property and land holdings. It is not known if the case was resolved.
