Letters and Miscellaneous Documents [Samuel Henry Egerton Barraclough] (Series 1441)

This series consists of letters addressed to Samuel HE Barraclough and some miscellaneous items. Most items are letters addressed to Barraclough; some are undated. Other records include address cards, a portrait photograph of Barraclough's wife and dinner menus bearing various signatures; also included is  correspondence with the Australian War Memorial relating to Barraclough's papers. Also a copy of a typescript of a lecture delivered by RM Johnston FLS in 1894 in Hobart entitled "The Story of an Old Lake of the Derwent".

University Archivist Mr G Fischer commented in December 1971 in reference to the correspondence assembled by Barraclough while at Cornell University, USA, 1892 to 1894, "These papers were in a 'concertina-type' file, though their arrangement is by no means clear". Thus, in arranging this collection, the letters received from family and the 1851 Exhibition Commissioners have been separated from the other correspondence which has been arranged chronologically. Arrangement of the correspondence is chronologically, some is also arranged by correspondent; other records are kept in separate folders.
