Correspondence and Other Records Relating to Courses and Students [Department of Engineering] [Faculty of Engineering] (Series 365)

This series contains opinions on practical work for Engineering III students given by employers, students and staff in 1956 (access is restricted to these records). These records constitute about one-third of the series. About 20% of the series is dated pre-1930, half of which these relate to the course in Military Engineering given by Samuel Henry Egerton (SHE) Barraclough to students in Military Science. This course was run by the Department of Military Science, which, in 1915, consisted of Colonel Legge and Barraclough. The Department reported to a Board of Military Studies, established following the report of a University Senate Committee on Military Education presented at the 6 November 1905 Senate meeting. The first curriculum in Military Science is documented in the minutes of the 3 December 1906 Senate meeting. The last published course in Military Science appears in the 1915 University Calendar (pp. 254-258). The last documented meeting of the Board of Military Studies was on 13 July 1915 (refer to the minute book of the Board, G3/26).
