Personal Papers Relating to Writing about Student Life at the University [Alan Barcan] (Series 1503)

This series contains correspondence and publications like newsletters, handbooks, magazines mostly produced by the University of Sydney Union (USU) and the Student Representative Council (SRC). The publications include Historia - Newsletter of the University of Sydney History Association, the Sydney Uni SRC women's handbook, orientation handbooks, the Union Recorder, ur magazine, handbooks of clubs and societies, and a student survival guide. The material was used by Alan Barcan in the writing about student life at the University, especially his book "Radical Students - The Old Left at Sydney University". 

The series also includes a "History of the Sydney University Labour Club", copy of an essay "The use of historical method in the social sciences" submitted by Alan Barcan for the Beauchamp Prize under the Nom de plume ‘Retrospex’; copy of a clipping from the Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) regarding Gough Whitlam's appearance in the University Revue and copy letter written by Whitlam refuting the claim; various correspondence regarding radical students and their experience and recollections; and corrections and suggestions to manuscript drafts.

Records added at a later time mostly consists of correspondence regarding his manuscripts about the students' movement
